New York Stock Exchange Welcomes Portuguese Equities Forum To the NYSE
Executives of Leading Listed Portuguese Companies Rang Today’s Opening Bell

NEW YORK , Oct. 7, 2008—Executives from leading Portuguese listed companies, hosted by Mr. Miguel Athayde Marques, Chairman and CEO of the NYSE Euronext Lisbon market, today are participating in the first Portuguese Equities Forum in New York . To celebrate the NYSE event, taking place at the Exchange today and tomorrow, the participating executives opened the market for trading today.    The Portuguese Equities Forum is sponsored by NYSE Euronext and provides leading Portuguese companies an opportunity to address the U.S. and global investor community.

“It’s my pleasure to welcome the participating listed companies from Portugal to the New York Stock Exchange,” said Mr. Marques.  “In addition to making presentations to U.S. and global investors, this is an excellent opportunity for relationship building and bring a better awareness of European companies listed on NYSE Euronext to the U.S. ,” said Mr Marques.

The Portuguese Government was represented by the Ambassador of Portugal to the United States , H.E. João de Vallera. Keynote speaker during the breakfast presentation was Prof. JoãoAssuncao, a distinguished academic who came to New York specifically for this event, to discuss the current drivers in the European Economy. Prof. Assuncao serves as an economic adviser to the Portuguese President and is a member of the Group of Social Policy Analysis (GSPA) that works for the President of the European Commission.

NYSE Euronext markets are home to 55 listed issuers from Portugal with a total global market capitalization of approximately €158 billion / $233.3 billion (as of Aug. 31, 2008).
