Representatives from Cycle for Survival, the national, high energy indoor team cycling event owned and operated by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, will visit the NYSE and ring The Opening Bell to highlight its upcoming nationwide events. Together with its founding partner, Equinox, Cycle for Survival raises money to fight rare cancers by funding critical research. Within six months of each Cycle for Survival event, every dollar raised is allocated to a Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center research initiative devoted to discovering new and more effective treatments for rare cancers.
Half of all people diagnosed with cancer suffer from a “rare” form of the disease, which includes such well-known types as pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, stomach cancer, and all pediatric cancers. Research into rare cancers is often underfunded, which means patients may have limited treatment options. In the past six years, Cycle has raised more than $22.7M and directly funded 53 clinical trials and research studies.
This year, Cycle for Survival is taking place at founding partner, Equinox, clubs in 10 locations nationwide beginning on February 2nd continuing through March 3rd. These include: Boston (MA), Chicago (IL), Coral Gables (FL), Greenwich (CT), Long Island (NY), Los Angeles (CA), New York City (NY), San Francisco (CA), Summit (NJ), and Washington DC.
Cycle for Survival 2013 corporate sponsors include: ICAP, Smart Water, Akin Gump, Pedersen, Empire, The Next Generation Foundation, Pfizer, Odwalla, AOL, The Huffington Post, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund, United Therapeutics, and FKB.
