Index Description
The NYSE Financial Index is one of the three NYSE Sector Indexes introduced in January 2004 to provide investors and issuers with a more defined snapshot of key segments of the NYSE marketplace. The three new NYSE Sector Indexes, namely the NYSE Energy Index, NYSE Financial Index and NYSE Health Care Index, are subsets of the NYSE Composite Index. Components in the NYSE Financial Index include NYSE-listed common stocks that are classified into the Financial Sector according to the Industry Classification Benchmark. Components in the Index represent a significant portion of the total market capitalization of the Financial Sector in the United States and globally. It is a broad-based benchmark that is diversified across large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap stocks, and provides exposure to companies around the world.
